Child proofing your home is about more than a door lock.

One of the things you need to be sure of when you’re looking at all the different door lock possibilities for a child’s room is whether that kind of door hardware is necessary. Like a lot of other parent’s issues there are two different sides to the argument.

A quick look through some of the more popular parenting discussion forums brings some interesting and opposing views to light. On one side of the coin are those parents who feel that it’s just not right to lock a child in their room at night. Then there are new parents like a woman named Tina who wrote in to say that her young daughter suffers from sleepwalking and she feels safer with some kind of protective cover over the door knob.

There are a few different varieties for parents to look at including magnetic locks and multipurpose latches that, as the name suggests, can be used in a variety of different ways.

If you’re going this route and plan on using these door locks, make sure you consider the array of window locks and patio door locks that make other areas of your home especially safe for your children as well.
